Bikini Full Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours (Brazilian Waxing Tips)
By Wax me waxing studio and spa | July 16, 2026

We hear it all the time: “This was the best bikini wax I’ve ever had.” And the fastest way to protect that smooth, clean result is simple. For the first 24 to 48 hours, keep the area clean and dry, avoid heat and sweat, and skip anything fragranced or abrasive. If you’re leaving us in Astoria near Steinway Street, 30th Avenue, or Ditmars, your outfit and your plans right after your appointment matter more than most people think.
First 24 hours after Bikini Full: keep it cool, dry, and hands off
A Bikini Full (15 minutes, $65) removes hair from the top and inner surroundings for a clean, tidy look. Right after waxing, your skin is calm one minute and reactive the next. So we keep things boring for a day or two.
Do this today
- Rinse with lukewarm water and wash gently with a fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry, don’t rub.
- Wear loose, breathable underwear and easy pants. Cotton usually feels best.
- If you’re headed to the subway after an evening appointment on Ditmars or 30th Ave, bring a clean pair of underwear in your bag if you tend to sweat on the platform.
Skip for 24 to 48 hours: hot showers or baths, saunas/steam rooms, pools/hot tubs, tanning, heavy workouts, and tight leggings that trap heat and friction.
Astoria summers get humid fast. In July and beach season, sweating plus friction is usually what triggers the little bumps people blame on “the wax.” If you can keep it cool and dry, you’re already doing the most important part of aftercare.
24 to 48 hours: how to avoid irritation when you feel “totally fine”
A lot of our Brazilian waxing regulars tell us the appointment itself is “super quick” and “one of the less painful times, ” which we love. But fast and gentle doesn’t mean your skin wants a spin class right after. Give it a little time.
Showering, skincare, and friction
Keep cleansing gentle. Avoid scented body wash, scrubs, and anything with strong acids the first couple days. If you’re itchy, don’t scratch. Light pressure through your underwear is better than nails on freshly waxed skin.
Timing your plans around Astoria life
If you’re coming in after work from Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Greenpoint, or Manhattan, plan your aftercare like a commuter. Keep an extra clean liner or underwear in your bag, skip the tight jeans, and avoid a long waterfront walk if it’s sticky out and you know you’ll sweat.
Days 3 to 7: when exfoliation starts (and what ruins a good wax)
If your Bikini Full felt like “the best bikini wax” you’ve had, protect that result for the whole week, not just the ride home. The biggest mistake we see is starting exfoliation too soon or using something too aggressive.
Our timing rule: wait at least 72 hours before you exfoliate. Earlier than that tends to irritate skin and can kick up redness or tiny bumps.
Once you hit day 3, gentle exfoliation helps prevent ingrowns. Think mild and consistent, not harsh and once-in-a-while. And don’t pick at hairs or “help” them out. That’s how you end up raw, inflamed, and annoyed.
- Avoid: tanning, heavy fragranced lotions, and tight nylon underwear that rubs.
- Do: keep the area moisturized with a simple, fragrance-free product so skin stays flexible.
- Rebook rhythm: staying consistent usually makes waxing easier over time. Regulars often tell us the experience gets more comfortable as they stick with it and follow aftercare.

Simple products that work after brazilian waxing (no strong smells)
You don’t need a complicated shelf to take care of freshly waxed skin. You need the right types of products, used at the right time.
Right after your Bikini Full
We generally recommend a fragrance-free soothing product like a post-wax balm or plain aloe. Skip perfumed lotions and aggressive antiseptics. Strong products can sting and keep redness hanging around longer.
Day 3 and on (72+ hours)
Bring in gentle exfoliation to help with ingrowns. A mild exfoliating mitt used lightly, or a gentle exfoliating product you already tolerate, usually does the job. Keep it light. If you overdo it, your skin tells you fast.

If something feels off: when to call us (and when to call a clinician)
“I had the opportunity to meet with Lilyan about a year ago and have been coming back ever since! Not only is she professional, and gentle but she is also well-educated about self-care post your wax treatment. She takes the time to educate you properly and truly cares about her clients.”
one of our regulars
A little redness, warmth, or mild sensitivity right after a Bikini Full is common. It should calm down, not ramp up. Reach out to our team if you’re unsure about what you’re seeing, especially if you have an event, a beach day, or a workout schedule you’re trying to time in Astoria’s warmer months.
Call a clinician right away if you notice increasing redness that spreads, significant swelling, pus, fever, or severe pain. Those aren’t “normal wax symptoms, ” and you deserve quick medical eyes on it.
If you want to compare Bikini Full to other options in the same family, start with our waxing and facial services. And if you’re already a regular, you know the drill. Keep it cool, keep it clean, and we’ll take it from there.
